Atroshchankau still in quarantine

1

Today a human rights activist from Vitsebsk, a member of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Pavel Lyavinau visited “Vitsba-3” correctional penal colony where Alyaksandr Atroshchankau is locked up.

The lawyer had a chance to talk to the chief of the colony Vitaly Ahnistsikau. The chief told that Alyaksandr was transferred to the colony on March 25, and is still in quarantine (which usually lasts for about two weeks). It means that the prisoner is still familiarized with the internal regulations of the colony and a medical conclusion on his health is being prepared, the press service of the BAJ reports.

As said by the head of the colony, now the territory of the colony is being tidied up, and Alyaksandr “is taking an active part in it”.

To the question of Pavel Lyavinau whether it is possible to subscribe the inmate to some periodicals, the chief of the colony said equivocally: he is an adult, he has money on his account, and he can subscribe to anything he wants – and what if you would subscribe him to something he would not be happy to read?

We remind that Alyaksandr Atroshchankau is a spokesperson of Andrei Sannikov. He was detained on December 20, 2010 in the morning in his own flat. He was kept in the KGB jail, on March 2, 2011 by the court of Frunzenski district he was sentenced to 4 years of medium security prison for “participation in mass riots” (Part 2 Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Belarus). On March 25 he was transferred to Vitsba-3 colony, before the hearing of his cassation appeal in Minsk city court. On April 5 Minsk city court upheld the ruling of the court of first instance.
