Viktar Ivashkevich: Lukashenka fears economic sanctions only

Viktar Ivashkevich, a coordinator of “European Belarus”, comments on the verdict to Zmitser Bandarenka, who has been sentenced to 2 years in general regime penal colony.

“It means that the flywheel of repressions is moving on. The regime acts in accordance with the latest statements of citizen Lukashenka. Since he is swearing at European politicians, why should he to be too soft on his own citizens? I think that those European politicians, about whom Lukashenka expressed his opinion yesterday, should formulate their position on the ongoing repressions in Belarus more clearly. If they think that by diplomatic understatements and allusions they could influence Lukashenka’s position in any way, he demonstrates that he can respond and he fears economic sanctions only. And any talking are of no use,” Ivashkevich said to Radio Svaboda.
