Dashkevich allowed to pay last respect to his late mother only in morgue

On April 28, Zmitser Dashkevich, the imprisoned Young Front leader, paid last tribute to his mother Volha Dashkevich in a morgue of a Slutsk hospital (the Minsk Region).

As Natallya Yasevich, the Dashkevichs’ friend, told BelaPAN, in the morning of April 28, Zmitser Dashkevich was guarded to Slutsk and then returned to a detention facility on a decision of the Maskouski district court of Minsk and the administration of Minsk detention facility No 1.

Volha Dashkevich, 54, died from heart failure in her house in Starye Darohi (the Minsk Region) on April 26. She will be buried in Starye Darohi this afternoon.

Volha Dashkevich was born in the Yelsk District (the Homel Region). She did not have any chronic diseases, but her friends say for the last few months she worried much about her son, 29-year-old Young Front leader. He was detained in Minsk on December 18 and in March 2011 sentenced to two years in prison allegedly for hooliganism - beating two strangers. Volha Dashkevich was not able to attend the trial. Earlier, Dashkevich served an 18-month prison term in 2006-2008 for activity on behalf of unregistered organization.

Volha and Vyachaslau Dashkevichs had been together for 32 years. Both worked as journalists and travelled a lot, lived in the Far East. Volha came to Belarus to give birth to her son and then returned to Magadan with her husband.

At 8:00 pm, on April 28, wives of political prisoners plan to pray for the memory of Volha Dashkevich near Red Church (St Simon and Helena Church) in Minsk.
