Belarusian Popular Front faces eviction from their office in Minsk

Economic court in Minsk ruled on evicting Belarusian Popular Front from their office in Minsk, on Tuesday.

The eviction case was brought in by the public housing department in Minsk, who wants to use BPF office for their own purposes.

Ryhor Kostusyov, a leader of the BPF party was quoted by Bielpan news agency, saying that his party is planning to appeal the decision, but most probably the office will be inevitably lost.

On May 3rd, more than a 100 scientists, artists, human rights defenders and journalists signed a letter to Minsk authorities, where they referred to eviction decision as „shutting down an island on Belarusness, with active social and cultural life“. BPF has had their office at the Masherova street in Minsk since the beginning of the 1990s.
