During his stay in Minsk, “Novaya gazeta” editor Dmitry Muratov directed an inquiry to the McDonald’s branch asking to explain why the company has financial claims against Iryna Khalip.

“It’s a shocking thing. For instance, no one came to harm after provocateurs broke windows. However, as it turned out, now McDonalds company is included in the indictment as a adversely affected party. They could not sell 12,000 of their sandwiches, for a sum of about 10,000 Russian rubles. And now one could be imprisoned for 15 years because of McDonalds. It is an outrageous story,” Muratov stated in an interview to Ekho Moskvy radio station.

“We are waiting for an answer from McDonald’s. There is a strong possibility that their name is being manipulated, and they have been set up. You are asked what burger you prefer. Anyway, now we can surely write in an article title that McDonalds prefers burgers with blood. We will receive all answers and get this situation unscrambled,” said the editor of “Novaya gazeta”.
