Byalyatski: Authorities to place strict control on persons on probation

In this way the head of “Vyasna” human rights centre Ales Byalyatski comments the supposed verdicts to the persons involved in the Square case.

The prosecutor asks to sentence Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu to 3 years of imprisonment with arrest of judgment, Vital Rymasheuski, Alyaksandr Fyaduta and Syarhei Vaznyak – to 2 years conditional imprisonment with 2 years on probation, Anastasiya Palazhanka – 1.5 years of conditional imprisonment and a year on probation.

Recently the wife of the presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, Iryna Khalip, was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment and 2 year on probation.

- Even when a fake report would be drawn up against them by police, it would be a reason for changing a conditional sentence into a real one. Any administrative offense would be a serious reason for substituting the conditional punishment by a real one. I think that they would be greatly limited in their rights, and a risk to be sent to the colony would be realistic for them. The state places them under a strict control and accountability. They would have to visit the police department and check in, and a local police officer has a right and a task to visit them in their place of residence, to supervise,” the European Radio for Belarus was told by Ales Byalyatski.

- To my mind, they would have to ask for permission, send requests to police supervision bodies. One would have to receive individual permissions for leaving the country. In fact, they will be deprived of the right at least to go abroad actively.
