Zmitser Bandarenka examined by neurologist. He needs operation

The political prisoner, who is seriously ill, had a checkup by a medical specialist at last, after 5 months.

Zmitser Bandarenka’s wife has received a letter from her husband who is kept in the remand prison of Minsk city executive committee in Valadarski Street. The coordinator of “European Belarus” civil campaign Zmitser Bandarenka writes that after 5 months passed since serious problems with his spinal column occurred, he has been finally examined by a neurologist.

“I have just returned from a consultation. The neurologist was a very agreeable woman and I see she is a professional. The Interior Affairs Ministry has scored one point in humanity. They have offered me a consultation within a week. The KGB had been promising me it for 3 months, and these were just empty promises. Things are not going very good. I was told: “Certainly, you need an operation, and so far it is recommended to work out the foot.” However, I am still under the impression of professional approach of the medical expert,” Zmitser Bandarenka writes.

Zmitser Bandarenka has 4 hernias of intervertebral disks, 3 spinal nerve entrapments. He needs an operation urgently, otherwise he could become chairbound. In the KGB jail all requests to provide specialized medical assistance of a neurologist to him were futile. “Zmitser’s foot is literally hanging immovably. This can result in a wheelchair for him,” Volha Bandarenka said after her recent meeting with her husband.
