Brest State University: Social networks and oppositional websites are blocked

For the second month public sector bodies are under careful attention.

After the terrorist attack in Minsk metro the ruler of Belarus demanded to make labour discipline more rigorous. The State Control Committee started to find out: where people are late for work, and who is working crossword puzzles instead of working arduously. However, some organizations decided not to wait for inspectors from higher authorities, and started to check their subordinates themselves. For instance, in Brest State University named after A.S. Pushkin inspectors were interested even in what is kept in the computer of an employee.

“When a person comes to a working place, one should be busy with one’s work, and not with playing poker,” said the first assistant principal of the university Kanstantsin Krasouski.

A reporter of “Komsomolskaya Pravda” asked:

- How could it be tracked that an employee played poker during the lunch and not during working hours.

- From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. we have a pause for a person to have lunch, and not for going about one’s business at the computer owned by the state and using electricity of others.

People say that employees took to this inspection calmly. In almost every computer which had been checked undue things were found.

- We have uninstalled all the games, installed by users themselves. People were mostly playing logical games, not shooters. We also removed music, except for the music needed for academic activities. When we saw that the melody is needed for presentations, some events, we left it, but when we saw Russian criminals’ songs, pop music, heavy music, we deleted it at once, -- said Syarhei Pischyk, the head of the technical training aids department of Brest State University. – All social networks and oppositional websites are blocked in our university. If a user resorts to some tricks, in order to access such websites as “Odnoklassniki.ru” (Classmates), we will spot that quickly.

Some members of staff at whose computers games and music were found, had to write a letter of explanation, and there was just a conversation with other workers. The State Control Committee also checked discipline at the enterprises and in organizations in the end of April – beginning of May.

- During the inspection it was found out that at work some employees read books or glossy magazines on fashion. For instance, “War and Peace” by Tolstoy. There were people who were late for work for more than an hour, and returned from the lunch break later than it is due, -- the State Control Committee of Hrodna region informed. – Following the results of the inspection, 93 violators of labour discipline were brought to disciplinary responsibility.
