Poczobut: My trial to become comic event

A text of the letter from Andrei Poczobut, a journalist, who had been charged with insult and defamation of Lukashenka, and is kept in prison, has been posted to his blog.

The text was posted by the wife of the journalist:

“It’s evening time. My cell-mate Tolya who is tried for fraud, writes a sequel to Mowgli, and he is very concerned that an editor could him. And I am writing a letter to you.

You are very upset, aren’t you? And I am anxious about you. Have my victim intimidated you? Have he pressurized you? I am alright. The prison is prison. I have adopted myself to this situation quickly. I am killing time by reading books (thanks to Arlou) and by doing physical exercises. As we are not entitled to use a swimming pool here, I limit myself to Spartan press-ups, squats and abdominal exercises… As a result, my body is humming. Thank you for congratulations on my birthday. I have never celebrated it under such conditions. Everything was modest and Spartan. But I had a holiday, there were congratulations and even a modest present from my cell-mates.

I write letters seldom, as I am not used to write under the conditions of censorship. Only here I have understood the feelings which are tearing workers of state-run mass media, when they cannot write the most interesting things because censorship would not allow them to appear. The only difference is that I had been placed here by force, while they had put on dog collars of their own free will. But we would not be saddened for them, everyone has his own fate.

I am waiting for the trail impatiently, I think it will be a very amusing and even comic event. Its final is clear certainly, but it is the case when the result is less important than the process.

Well, good luck! I’m wishing you success and faith!”
