Andrei Sannikov: For normal Belarus!

Information about the events in Belarus passes through thick prison walls.
On Solidarity Day, June 16, Andrei Sannikov sent a letter from the Interior Ministry’s detention facility, where he is kept after being sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. The politician’s wife, Iryna Khalip, re-sent the letter to charter97.org. Andrei Sannikov found the most precise words to describe the current situation:
“It seems to me that we see a rare situation. People are returning to a normal life through our ordeals. Feeling sympathy is a normal thing. Protecting children and helping parents are normal things. This support is vital for everyone behinds bars, you know it yourself, but it is extremely important for returning normality to our lives, the normality that we began to forget.
In principle, I was saying this during the election campaign. In a strange way, this is happening now adjusted for the absurdity of the events that impelled these processes. We need to nourish, nurse and cherish this solidarity from inside and outside, take care of it and try to make this yet thin material firmer.”
