Alyaksei Yanukovich, the head of the Belarusian Popular Front party (BPF), said at a party meeting that on June 21, the cassation board of the Economic Court of Minsk dismissed an appeal by the BPF party against eviction from its headquarters.
Now, with the court decision in force, the party expects a legal demand to vacate the building, BelaPAN reports.
Alyaksei Yanukevich thinks the party has legal grounds to stay in an office it rents from the public utilities department. He said he’d like to discuss new conditions of renting the office, including higher rental fees, but a representative of the public utilities department declined the offer.
Ryhor Kastusyou, the party’s deputy head, said nine variants of lease were discussed. “At first, landlords talks nicely to us and expressed their readiness to lend premises. But when it came to preparing a contract, they refused. We also considered some variants of purchasing premises, but we had no success,” he said.
We remind that the Economic Court of Minsk took a decision on May 10 to evict the BPF party, BPF “Revival” public association, and their city and regional branches from their headquarters on 8 Masherau Avenue in Minsk. The organizations have rented these premises since 1992. The lease term expired on March 31, 2011.
