A silent action was held in spite of preparations for official celebration events organized by the authorities.
According to “Brestsksys Gazeta”, a part of Lenin Square in Brest was enclosed with crowd control barriers. The authorities also ordered an orchestra to rehearse the national anthem on the square.
People on the square applaud to every performance. When about 300 people gathered on the square, the crowd moved down Pushkinskaya Street to Savetskaya Street. Brest dwellers were clapping their hands and whistling.
Riot police blocked Savetskaya Street near the millennium monument. Four prison vehicles stood near. People turned to Gogol Street before the cordon and walked to Kasmanautau Avenue, which was blocked, too. Some persons were detained.
A frontman of Brest’s popular band “Dai Dorogu!”, Yury Stylski, was detained among others. “I got detained when I was returning home,” he told a BG correspondent on the phone.
