Human rights activists say the number can be greater.

As human rights activist from Hrodna Viktar Sazonau told “Nasha Niva”, first participants of silent action on July 3 would stand trials at 2:00 pm. According to him, at least 69 persons were summoned for this time. The court also held hearing at 3:00 pm. So, information about 120 detained persons in Hrodna may be true.

Viktar Sazonau noted that no one was tried today. Those called to court were handed in summons for July 6.

There is still no information about three detained persons left in a detention facility for the night. One of them is Belsat journalist Yury Humyanyuk. The human rights defender does not exclude they could be tried at an off site court session and sentenced to administrative arrest. He emphasized that this version had not been checked yet.

Several hundreds people took part in a silent protest action in Hrodna on July 3. Human rights activists say at least 380 persons were detained in the country.

The Constitution of Belarus guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, but in practice these human rights are not observed.
