Kyrgyzstan is set to file a new extradition request for ousted president Kurmanbek Bakiyev related to the murder of the ex-Chief of the Staff to the president, Medet Sadyrkulov.
Such a statement was made on Friday at a press-conference of the Deputy Minister of Interior Melis Turganbaev.
“Law-enforcing agencies of Kyrgyzstan will send the documents on extradition of the former Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev in the near future,” Melis Turganbaev stated. According to him, the former head of the state knew about the murder of the head in his Office Medet Sadyrkulov.
“The former head of state Kurmanbek Bakiyev naturally knew about the murder of the fourth person in the country,” noted Melis Turganbaev.
He said that earlier the auhorities of Belarus refused to extradite the former President of Kyrgyzstan calling it as “political persecution.” “Now he is suspected of a criminal offense involvement,” added the deputy minister.
He also informed that the investigators still do not know the whereabouts of the former Chairman of the State Defense Council Zhanysh (Zhanybek) Bakiyev, the brother of ousted former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, is unknown. “But we are working with the colleagues from neighboring countries and we will soon arrest him,” promised Melis Turganbaev.
The day before Kyrgyz Interior Ministry Zarylbek Rysaliev said that “the persons detained in this case have told to investigators that Zhanybek Bakiyev had been personally interrogating and beating Medet Sadyrkulov before his murder.”
The former presidential Chief of Staff Medet Sadyrkulov, the head of the International Institute for Strategic Studies Sergei Slepchenko and the driver Kubat Sulaimanov died on March 13, 2009 in an alleged car accident in suburbs of Bishkek. Omurbek Osmonov, an unemployed native of Osh region, was found guilty of the accident. He was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment term in a penal colony-settlement. He was murdered under unclear circumstances in April 2010. There were 11 stab wounds on his body.
