Calls to free Belarusian political prisoners at EaP conference

Representatives of the EaP’s civil society forum adopted a declaration raising concerns about arrest of Ales Byalyatski and threat to life and health of Belarusian political prisoners.
The document was adopted at a conference of the Eastern Partnership project held in Warsaw on September 29 as part of the EaP summit.
The declaration expresses concern about the ongoing violations of human rights and presence of political prisoners in certain countries – participants of the Eastern Partnership programme, BelaPAN reports.
The authors of the declaration call on the European Union to conduct more consistent policy towards the EaP participants. They call to unanimously condemn any restrictions of basic human rights, including the right for freedom to elect, freedom of speech, freedom of assemblies in all countries participating in the Eastern Partnership.
