Iryna Khalip: Had EU imposed sanctions, one day would be enough for all political prisoners to be released

The wife of Andrei Sannikov, a political prisoner, believes that European politicians act in an unprincipled way unfortunately.

“European politicians have made a statement that they have “a firm and consistent stand”…and what have they achieved? They are not even going to expand the blacklist, they are going to extend the list of criteria according to which they will determine people to be blacklisted a few years after. I think that European politicians are acting in unprincipled way unfortunately,” stated Iryna Kalip, the wife of the presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, “Belarusian partisan” informs.

In this way she answered the question whether she has hope for assistance of the European community in release of Belarusian political prisoners.

“Contracts for Belarusian oil products make just 1.5% of the European Union’s needs. Is it impossible to live without 1.5%, and moreover, just for a little while? Had they imposed these sanctions, one day would be enough for all political prisoners to be released…”, Iryna Khalip is convinced.
