Jaroslaw Kaczynski: Sanctions against Belarus should be strengthened

A former Polish PM and now the leader of the biggest opposition group in the Seim stands up for imposing “sharper sanctions” against the Belarusian regime.
“Things may go worse. In this situation, I cannot guarantee a reaction of Belarus will be less acute. The Belarusian regime treats its people in a manner usual for dictatorial countries – as they were its private property. Civil rights do not work there. Civil rights is a line the authorities cannot cross over in their relations with citizens. Well, in this case we have to conduct a tough policy moving to sharper and more decisive sanctions,” Kaczynski said.
As Radio Svaboda reports, Jaroslaw Kaczynski praised the government and the European Union for the recent steps in relation to Belarus, but criticized the previous tactics towards Minsk characterized with “knowingly unsuccessful initiatives that allowed Lukashenka to feel more confident”.
