Statkevich spent two months in cell with TB patient

Imprisoned presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich was in a cell for two months with a prisoner who suffered from tuberculosis.

The information was received from the wife of the imprisoned politician, Maryna Adamovich, Radio Racja reports.

She worries doctors of the Mahilou prison, where the politicians serves his term, suddenly demonstrated interest in his health. Statkevich was moved to the Mahilou prison from a penal colony in Shklou almost three months ago, on January 14.

“I was concerned about the information that doctors turned close attention to his health, especially lungs. He had an X-ray in Shklou and than two times in Mahilou. They do not give reasons for such an interest. I know one of his cellmates suffered from tuberculosis. He [Mikalai) shared a cell with him for a rather long time, over two months,” the wife of the politician said.

According to Maryna Adamovich, she worries if a sharing a cell with a TB patient can have consequences for Mikalai Statkevich's health. She regards the situation as successful attempts to blackmail and press on Statkevich and perhaps western countries to encourage the West for trading in political prisoners.

Maryna Adamovich does not rule out these actions have relation to the recent, as she called it, hysterical statements by top officials about a possibility of releasing certain political prisoners.

We remind Iryna Khalip, the wife of imprisoned presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, said earlier a TB patient had been thrown in a cell to her husband.
