Statkevich phones his wife first time since July

Political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich phoned his wife from th Mahilou prison on March 16.

“Our conversation lasted for three minutes,” Maryna Adamovich, Statkevich's wife, told “Salidarnasts”.

It was the first phone call from Statkevich from Mahilou prison No. 4 and the first one since last year.

“I have fresh news,” the wife of the presidential candidate told a correspondent. “Mikalai was allowed to make a phone call. It was a very short conversation, only three minutes, but a very emotional one. Mikalai's voice sounds cheerful. He said he read a lot and did sport. He asked to send greetings to all people supporting him – our friends and the people who sent him letters. We talked about politics for 30 seconds. It was very noisy. As I understood, Mikalai phoned in the presence of a large number of people.”

Statkevich also said a censor attached a message to a letter from her wife warning if his wife continues to use such “cynic words” as “frogs”, “beast” and “snail”, letter will not be delivered.

The presidential candidate said he was allowed to have only one pair of footwear. As he did not receive winter boots, he decided on shoes.

Mikalai Statkevich was transferred from the Shklou penitentiary to closed prison in Mahilou on January 13, 2012.
