Marek Migalski: Ambassadors should not return to Belarus

The European Union should adhere to a common strong position, make no concessions and exclude returning to inconsistency which appeared to be an advantage for Lukashenka, a member of the European Parliament thinks.
“Of course, the release of political prisoners is a step in the right direction, but this step is not enough. The EU repeatedly stressed a condition for a dialogue and serious attitude towards Lukashenka was the release of all political prisoners. We hope the release of Sannikov and Bandarenka is the first step to release the remaining political prisoners and return to a kind of cooperation between Minsk and Brussels,” Migalski said.
The MEP thinks the return of European ambassadors to Minsk cannot be regarded only as a diplomatic issue, Euroradio reports.
“Ambassadors should not return to Belarus, because nothing has changed there since the moment they left the country. The release of political prisoners is good, but one should not forget other political prisoners are still behind bars. If Lukashenka wants to return to the state of things before the diplomatic scandal, he must release political prisoners, the MEP said.
