Scarlett Johansson says she has Belarusian roots

The actress said  at presentation of The Avengers her family was originally from Minsk, Belarus.

“My mother is anxious for us to go there [Eastern Europe],” the actress says. Johansson hasn't been to Belarus yet, “Nasha Niva” reports.

Johansson flied to Moscow for a premiere of the film The Avengers, in which she played Russian Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow.

According to the actress, she was interested in a role of a Russian spy also due to her roots.

“Black Widow has such a great back story, I would love to be able to explore that more,” says Johansson who already played a Russian spy in Iron Man 2.

Scarlett Johansson  was born in 1984 to a family of Karsten Johansson and Melanie Sloan, who comes from Belarusian Jews.

Johansson had her most famous roles in films Lost in Translation, The Black Dahlia, Scoop.

Her filmography includes  over 30 movies. Besides being an actress, Johansson sings and works as a model.
