Trial over communists' claim against Young Front postponed

Defendants, Young Front activists serving a term of administrative arrest, failed to appear before court.

On May 10, the Maskouski district court of Minsk was to continue hearing an administrative case over a claim of the Communist Party of Belarus against Young Front members. The trial was postponed as defendants failed to appear before court, Radio Svaboda reports.

Young Front members Mikhail Musski and Raman Vasilyeu were not guarded to court. They are serving a term of administrative arrest after the Chernobyl Way rally.

The third defendant, Pavel Syarhei, was not present in court too. He had a meeting in the Frunzenski district court appointed for 10 am. He is accused of disorderly conduct during the Chernobyl Way rally on April 26. Besides, the Young Front activist has been called to a military enlistment office.

Communist Mikalai Yushchanka wants to collect 1.5 million rubles from the Young Front activists. His party fellow Mikalai Valovich wants the activists to pay 4.5 million rubles. They want a compensation for denigration of honour and dignity.

Young Front members organized an egg attack on the monument to Lenin on Independence Square in Minsk on the October Revolution Day, an official holiday in Belarus. They also chanted “Communists must answer” and “Tribunal for Communism”.
