Demands to oust “sadist” Yauseeu heard in Minsk

Relatives of political prisoners demand to investigate use of violence by police against peaceful citizens.

It is read in their address to the Prosecutor General of Belarus Alyaksandr Kanyuk, adopted at the round table discussion in Minsk on May 23, BelaPAN informs.

As said by a public activist Hanna Shaputska, the document is to be handed in to representatives of the Prosecutor General’s office by relatives of political prisoners personally on May 24.

“Recently the society had been shocked by the news about unprecedentedly cruel beating of peaceful citizens by policemen. Law-enforcement officers from Minsk are particularly distinguished by their cruelty, sadism,” the authors of the address emphasize.

The relatives of political prisoners protest against “acts of violence committed by law-enforcement officers, abuse of power, physical and moral torture.” “We demand to investigate every act of violence against peaceful citizens and punish those guilty,” they stress.

The authors of the address demand to remove from office Ihar Yauseeu, deputy chairman of the Main directorate of Interior Affairs of Minsk city executive committee, immediately. He “fails to perform his official duties, as he committed negligence, or even probably initiated beating up of peaceful citizens by his officers.”

“We believe that provocation against peaceful population is being carried out by force structures, which is aimed for undermining the constitutional order, aggravation of the social and political situation in the country amid the severe economic crisis, undermining the minimal stability in the society, which still exists,” the address reads.

Participants of the round table discussion have also discussed a possibility to file personal suits against policemen, who used force against peaceful citizens unreasonably.

As one of such cases, one can mention the fact of detention and beating up an activist of “European Belarus” civil campaign Andrei Mouchan in Minsk on May 19. He was placed to the emergency hospital with a broken jaw and traumatic brain injury.
