Ales Marachkin: Participating in “election”? God forbid!

The famous Belarusian artist is confident members of “parliament” do not influence anything.

Alyaksei Marachkin has recently had an exhibition in Belvneshekonombank office (Minsk, 2 Kulman Street), where ten his works were showed. Alyaksei Marachkin is going to take part in an international plein air festival in Poland scheduled for August 13. The leader of Pahonya association works on his old and new paintings and does not plan to participate at the “parliament election”, he told charter97.org.

“Participation in the election? God forbid! There are no elections. We cannot elect. Even if a conformist from the opposition gains a seat in the 'parliament', he or she will be dancing to the tune of our main dancer,” Ales Marchkin thinks.

“MPs cannot influence anything. They just obey orders from above. There is not parliament. There are no elections,” the artist says. “The most disgusting was when Lukashenka addressed the MPs and quoted Grand Inquisitor: 'Nothing has ever been more insufferable for man  than freedom!' He took the side of Satan, but MPs were applauding him for these words. And the church kept silence!'

We remind Lukashenka said a quote from Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov in his address to the people of Belarus and the parliament on May 8, 2012: “Nothing has ever been more insufferable for man  than freedom!” These words belong to the Grand Inquisitor, who argues with Jesus Christ and opposes the power of instincts to spiritual values.
