Deutschlandfunk: Belarusian riot police adopt German experience

Germany discusses reasons for resignation of the leadership of the German federal police.

Deutschlandfunk radio writes in a comment that German federal police head and HDC member Matthias Seeger will be officially informed about his resignation on July 30.

“As for the reasons why he must leave his post, one can have only guesses. Contacts with Belarus, struggle for power and abuse of office are called among the reasons. However, it's known what really causes the dismissal. It's unknown who who stands behind allegations of his ties with the Belarusian regime,”  Deutschlandfunk notes and adds:

“There is an opinion among officials that the Belarusian case was dragged in. However, rumours lay blame on the police chief.  It this situation it would be logical to wait for comments from Seeger himself

Deutschlanfunk informs that “dismissal of Seeger and his deputies will behead the police. Ministry personnel are deeply disappointed. If their bosses are treated like that, what they can expect?”

The German opposition claims the reason for the resignation was ties of high-ranking police officers with Alyaksandr Lukashenka regime. Head of Germany's Left Party Gregor Gysi told journalists he did not ruled out the Belarusian riot police couldn't have suppressed rallies in Minsk after the 2010 presidential election if it had not been for the experience adopted from their German colleagues.
