Vajciushkievich’s concert forbidden in Polatsk

The concert of a Belarusian musician Zmicier Vajciushkievich got banned.

The concert was supposed to take place at Polatsk’s center for crafts and national culture and was preliminary agreed with the head of the Department of Ideology, Culture and Youth of the district’s executive committee Viktar Palushkin. However, on the eve of the concert the district’s executive committee received a phone call the region’s one and the concert got banned, the human rights center Viasna reports.

A meeting was promptly held at the district’s executive committee to find out who had organized “the oppositionist’s concert”. The deputy chairman for social issues Piotr Piatkievich tried to blame the director of the center for crafts and national culture Valancina Kruk for being politically shortsighted, accusing her of not agreeing on the concert with him. Piatkievich required for Valancina Kruk to be fired from the position of the center’s director.

The center’s director responded that the concert was, as usual agreed with the executive committee’s department of culture, there were no reprimands about her work and she was not going to quit herself. Zmicier Vajciushkievich’s admirers in Polatsk are filled with indignation because of the actions of the authorities, who have undermined their meeting with a popular Belarusian musician.
