Boris Nemtsov: Lukashenka wants to physically eliminate his opponents

Russian politician Boris Nemtsov joined the campaign to release Belarusian political prisoners Freedom x 2.

Boris Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister of Russia, one of the leaders of People's Freedom Party and member of the Coordination Council of the Russian opposition, has joined Freedom x 2 campaign calling for the immediate release Zmitser Dashkevich and Mikalai Statkevich.

“Two Belarusian political prisoners – 2010 presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich and Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich – have been in prison for the second year. They are in an extremely difficult situation. Both were convicted on far-fetched accusations. They are in severe confinement conditions suffering from psychological pressure and being thrown into punishment cells.

Dictator Lukashenka wants to physically eliminate his opponents. Freedom x 2 campaign launched by MEP Marek Migalski to support these brave men is vital.

I am ready to join the committee to support Mikalai Statkevich and Zmitser Dashkevich. I join the appeals to release all Belarusian political prisoners immediately,” Boris Nemtsov's statement reads.

MEP Marek Migalski founded the Freedom x 2 campaign in late October 2012.

Freedom x 2 is a solidarity campaign with two Belarus political prisoners, 2010 presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich and leader of Young Front international organisation Zmitser Dashkevich.

The website www.2free.eu was created to inform about Zmitser Dashkevich and Mikalai Statkevich, the measures taken by the MEP and actions held by Migalski's office. A petition to leaders of the EU member states was posted on the website to make them continually remind about Belarus prisoners of conscience who face harassment and ill-treatment in penal colonies.
