Maryna Adamovich: Paletskis must demand meeting with political prisoners

Mikalaj Statkevich’s spouse believes that the European Parliament’s reporter on Belarus must meet Belarusian political prisoners.

In Maryna Adamovich’s opinion, only that will allow making an objective picture of what is now going on in our country. Justas Paletskis’ visit does not make sense without meeting the leaders and activists of opposition who are now behind the bars. The wife of politically imprisoned Mikalaj Statkevich stated that in an interview to charter97.org.

“Any visits of European officials, including official EU representatives, to Minsk only make sense in case they meet political prisoners. It is clear, that Europeans should visit Belarus in order to obtain information of what is going on here. But for this information to be objective, they should speak with political prisoners”, - she said.

We would remind that the visit of the European Parliament delegation’s reporter on Belarus Justas Paletskis’ has started on 18 March.

According to the MEP’s Lithuanian bureau, he has a number of meetings planned with the representatives of the authorities and opposition. On 18 March he met the leader of Just World party Siarhei Kalakin and one of the leaders of the organizational committee for the creation of a party Belarusian Christian Democracy Vital Rymasheuski. The visit will last until 21 March.
