Siarhei Kavalenka will be put on trial

The former political prisoner, detained in Vitsebsk yesterday will face a trial.

Siarhei Kavalenka’s wife Alena Kavalenka reported about that. The court’s proceedings will take place in the court of Vitsebsk’s Piershamajski district, Radio Svaboda reports.

The former political prisoner was detained yesterday in the evening. Siarhei Kavalenka was accused of crossing the street not at the pedestrian crossing.

A Vitsebsk opposition activist Aliaksandr Halavan told about the detention. The former political prisoner managed to give him a phone call.

We would remind that Siarhei Kavalenka was pardoned by the dictator in September 2012 and released from a penal colony in Mahilou. He stayed behind bars from December 2011. In February last year Kavalenka was sentenced to 2 years and 1 month of imprisonment in a general regime colony for hanging out a white-red-white flag on the main city’s Christmas tree two years ago.
