Sculptor Henik Lojka will appeal against his arrest today

A sculptor Henik Lojka, sentenced for two days of arrest for an action protecting the Belarusian language, will appeal against the verdict in court.

That is what he told to the charter97.org web-site.

“The appeal of Minsk Frunze district court’s decision, according to which I was sentenced to five days of arrest in the detention center in Akrestsina street, will take place today in Minsk city court, located in Dunina Marcinkevicha street 1, at 3 p.m. A did not commit a crime, but simply stood in support of our national language”, - the sculptor noted.

He emphasized that the verdict was of a discriminatory character.

“The worst thing is not that I was arrested, but that the judge of the Frunze district’s court discriminated the Belarusian language by that. I will accentuate my attention on that. I will not forgive the discrimination of the native language”, - Henik Lojka concluded.

We would remind that on 21 February near the porch of the capital’s gymnasium number 4 a civic activist and a sculptor Henik Lojka unrolled a banner saying “Congratulations on the Mother Tongue Day. The gymnasium number 4 was the last one with the Belarusian language of teaching”. For this action the sculptor was sentenced to a five-day arrest.
