Wildcat strike of seamstresses in Hancavichy

Employees of a private enterprise Supermike arranged a wildcat strike because of the non-payment of the salaries for June.

It took place a week ago, on 2 august, a local media Hancavitski Chas reports.

“We already do not know how to fight the untimely salary payments. It is the only source of income in my family. The child has gone sick, and I do not even have money to buy medicines. They called from a bank several times already because the delay in loan payments. Even more so that it is August today, and they only promise the salary for June”, - a Supermike’s seamstress told in tears.

This is the first wildcat strike at the enterprise that the employees dared to undertake. It is very hard to find a job in the town, that is why the women, who started working at the plant, expected to have at least some kind of support, but got disappointed.

“They laugh at us that we still work here and tolerate this kind of treatment. We do not what is not ours, give us our earned money”, - one of the seamstresses said.

The patience ended on 2 August. According to the workers, in the morning they warned the accountant about a strike, unless the salaries were paid. After the accountant yet another time told them that there was no money, the workers of the private enterprise turned off the sewing machines and just stayed at the working places half of the day.

According to the contracts, the salary must be paid before the 25th day of every month. But, according to the women, since the end of July they have only been hearing the promises to get paid the June salary. According to the seamstresses, the enterprise’s director Ivan Nabieshka, having found about the strike, did not even show up at the enterprise. He warned the workers over the phone: “If you do not work, others will come”.

The workers shared their assumptions with journalists as to why the salaries are not paid. The main part of the claims was addressed to the chief accountant, who, according to the workers’ assumptions, did not submit the payment document to the bank on time.

“She does not care, she works at two enterprises. If she does not receive money here, she will at the other workplace. And I have to feed the children in any way I come up with…”, - one of the women said.
