Grzegorz Schetyna: Lukashenka must release political prisoners

Release of all political prisoners remains the key requirement of Western countries to Belarus.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Grzegorz Schetyna said so to “Belarusian Partisan” during his visit to Kyiv.

“I do not have any talks with Lukashenka now. Let’s wait what he is going to do,” he said. “First of all, Lukashenka must release political prisoners. We are ready to offer any kind of assistance, if Belarus respects rules of democracy, releases political prisoners. And after that we are ready for a further dialogue. But the fate of Belarus is in the hands of Belarusians and the Belarusian government.”

We remind that 6 persons are kept behind the bars on political charges in today’s Belarus, including the presidential candidate in the election of 2010 Mikalai Statkevich.
