Canada calls on the authorities of Belarus to respect media freedom.
Foreign Minister of Canada John Baird called on the Belarusian authorities on Monday evening to restore access to Charter'97 and other independent websites. He wrote it on Twitter.
“Canada calls on Belarus to respect media freedom: restore citizens' access to charter_97 and other independent websites,” the foreign minister wrote in English and French.
The message was retweeted more than 50 times by other political figures. Former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov replied: “Grateful for your support and solidarity.”

Pamela Isfeld, a Canadian diplomat and former president of PAFSO, the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers, appealed to the dictator.
“President Lukashenka of Belarus, blocking independent websites like Charter97 is not the answer!" she wrote.
