Amnesty International supports Statkevich

European activists of Amnesty International write letters to a political prisoner.

Mikalai Statkeivch said it on April 18 during a meeting with his lawyer.

The politician's wife Maryna Adamovich shared details with Radio Svaboda:

“Nothing new. He is held in solitary confinement. He says he has letters from Amnesty International from Germany, France and the Netherlands. So, he feels international support. He continues to follow the situation in Ukraine, though he has little information and receives the news too late. He has television, but we know what Belarusian and Russian TV channels show.”

According to Maryna Adamovich, Mikalai Statkevich met with a priest ahead of Easter Day. Maryna Adamovich thinks it possible that her husband will receive Easter bread from the priest during the Easter week: “Such visits were common the previous years.”

Former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich was sentenced to 6 years in prison for allegedly for organising disorders after the presidential election on December 19, 2010.
