Jacek Saryusz-Wolski: Ukrainian crisis needs solidarity from EU

The West should have a common position on Russia's aggression.

The website of Polish MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski informs about a new draft resolution on the situation in Ukraine, which is being discussed by European politicians.

The draft resolution calls on the EU member states to have a common position. It says about the need of a new security strategy amid Russia's imperialistic and aggressive actions in eastern Ukraine and the information war. The final version of the text remains a topic of negotiations of the EP's political groups. Jacek Sarysz-Wolski is the author and main negotiator on behalf of the European People's Party. Voting is scheduled for January 15.

“The solution to the Ukrainian crisis requires determination and solidarity actions of the EU and Ukraine, as well as respect for the rights of neighbouring countries and international law by Russia,” Jacek Saryusz-Wolski stresses. “We should struggle against Russia's terrorism in Ukraine with the consistency we struggle against any other kinds of terrorism, for example, radical Islamism.”

Members of the European Union stress the need of maintaining the firm position on Russia, including the continuation and, possibly, strengthening of sanctions if the Minsk agreements are not fulfilled. They also point at the measures that should be taken for financial and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.
