Policemen were enquiring about the whereabouts of Andrei Sannikov, the leader of the European Belarus civil campaign.
The politician told about that to charter97.org website.
“Policemen visited my flat in Minsk, – Andrei Sannikov said. – They demanded my wife to inform about my actual location and give them the address. They hinted that I could be put on wanted list. They said that I have an unexpunged conviction, so they should know my whereabouts.”
The politician believes that the interest of law-enforcing agencies is connected to release of his book My Story. Belarusian “Amerikanka” Or Elections Under Dictatorship, and his international meetings.
“Such insistence is surprising, especially now. – Andrei Sannikov said. – I think that it is connected with the release of my book and probably with my recent trips, in which I had meetings at a fairly high level, in the US and Canada. They are making that clear that they are following me and my activities closely.”
In 2010 Andrei Sannikov took part in the presidential elections in Belarus, he collected a considerable number of votes, however instead of participation in the second round of voting, he was arrested. He spent 16 months in jail. After he was released from prison he had to leave Belarus. Now he lives and works in Europe.
