Vitaly Rymasheuski: No election under Lukashenka is possible

The election with participation of the dictator is senseless.

Such an opinion has been expressed to charter97.org by a politician, a co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party (BCD) Vital Rymasheuski, commenting on the initiative for nomination of Mikalai Statkevich as a candidate for presidency.

“The topic of political prisoners’ release in 2015 (I do not even want to use the word “election”) must become number one topic in the campaign of the democratic forces. In this respect I support demands to release Statkevich, as well as all other political prisoners without exception. The campaign for his formal nomination as a candidate could help this,” Rymasheuski said.

The politician believes that participation in the election according to Lukashenka’s scenario is a deceit of the nation.

“Today all democratic forces should say: “No fair election with participation of Alyaksandr Lukashenka is possible in Belarus.” He does not have a moral or legal right to participate in this election. If we are not saying so, we are deceiving the people. That is why the slogan “For fair election without Lukashenka” should become the key one for the Belarusian democratic forces. Only then we would be honest with the people. Everything else is playing into the hands [of the authorities]. Participation in political campaigns without reminding about this key point is to play into the hands of the regime and in fact legitimization of the current regime. I remind that none of the democratic countries of the world had recognized the referendum which allowed one person to be a leader of Belarus endlessly. This referendum had not been recognized. And now some people forget about it,” he added.
