Prosecutor wants 1 year in high security prison for Dziadok

The verdict will be delivered at 17:30.

The hearing of a criminal case against political prisoner Mikalai Dziadok continues today in the Mahilou prison. He is charged with violating prison rules (article 411 of the Criminal Code of Belarus).

Dziadok is charged with 16 violations, the main of which is that he put on a tracksuit instead of his prison uniform, Viasnaa human rights centre reports.

The prosecutors asks to sentence Mikalai Dziadok to 1 year in a high security correctional facility, which is the maximum punishment. The verdict will be delivered at 17:30.

Dziadok was arrested on September 3, 2010. On May 27, 2011, Minsk's Zavadski district court sentneced him to 4.5 years in a high security correctional facility for hooliganism (part 2 of article 339 of the Criminal Code). On December 5, 2012, Mikalai was transferred from correctional facility No.17 in Shklou to prison No.4 in Mahilou with stricter confinement conditions.

Human rights defenders think the reason for Dziadok's prosecution was his participation in a protest rally near the Ministry of Defence against the joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises.

Dzidok was to be released on March 3, 2015, after the expiration of his jail term.
