Canadian Ambassador to Poland signed postcards to Belarusian political prisoners

The staff of the Embassy of Canada in Poland met with Belarusians.
As a reporter of charter97.org informs, the meeting was held in the Belarusian House in Warsaw. The Counsellor of the Embassy of Canada in Poland Pamela Isfeld, an employee of the Embassy Jolanta Widenka, the leader of the civil campaign European Belarus Andrei Sannikov, a coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus Dzmitry Bandarenka, an employee of the Belarusian House in Warsaw Yuliya Bandarenka. Diplomats have handed in office equipment to the office of European Belarus, and a postcard for the former presidential candidate in Belarus Mikalai Statkevich, signed by Canadian Ambassador to Poland Alexandra Bugailiskis.
“I am very disappointed and upset at the news about the new verdict received by you. I wish you to stay strong and courageous for the sake of free and democratic Belarus,” the Ambassador noted.
Postcards were also signed by the Counsellor of the Diplomatic mission Pamela Isfeld.
“I would like to express my support and concern over the situation with political prisoners in Belarus: Mikalai Statkevich, Ihar Alinevich, Mikalai Dzyadok, Yauhen Vaskovich, Artsyom Prakapenka, Yury Rubtsou. As before, Canada inalterably insists on their unconditional release,” she writes.
The leader of the campaign European Belarus Andrei Sannikov expressed gratitude to the diplomats for solidarity with Belarusians.
“I thank the Embassy of Canada for support. I would like to note that your country have always consistently upheld principles of democracy and insisted on respect to human rights in Belarus. This support is vitally important, and primarily for political prisoners, who are going through hard times, and for the entire civil society of Belarus,” he said.
A coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus Zmitser Bandarenka underlined the importance of international support for Belarusian political prisoners. The politician referred to his own example.
“As a former political prisoner I would like to say how important this support is for them. When I was in prison, sometimes I received up to 200 letters in a day, which is more than the rest of prisoners taken together,” Zmitser Bandarenka said.
Representatives of the Canadian Embassy have also brought office equipment to the office of the civil campaign European Belarus.
