"I Used To Come To Unit At Night To Prevent Hazing"

Non-statutory relations in the Belarusian army are a consequence of what the government is doing with the citizens' consciousness.

Reserve major Dzmitry Zakharevich says in an interview to Belsat that sometimes "hazing" in the army is indispensable, but its brutal manifestations are the consequences of what is happening in the society.

Hazing has existed since the beginning of time. There has been a need to explain to a boy how to do something properly," – Zakharevich said. But humiliation and bullying "is the result of what is happening in a society whose consciousness and behavior are influenced by serials like The Brigade and chanson."

According to the reserve major, not to have tragedies in the army, the officers must monitor the situation round the clock: "I used to come to the unit at night to prevent hazing."

We remind that on October 3, 21-year-old Pinsk resident Aliaksandr Korzhych, called up to the service less than six months ago, was found hanged in the basement of one of the buildings in the military unit near Barysau. On October 5, the investigation called suicide as an initial version of the tragedy. The deceased’s parents and friends do not believe in this version categorically.

On October 10, the investigation reported initiating a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 443 of the Criminal Code (violation of the statutory rules of relations between persons on whom the status of a serviceman applies, in the absence of subordination relations, which entailed grave consequences
