Every Second Belarusian Economizes On Food

At the end of last year, a lot of people had to cut out meat and fish.

According to MASMI research, in December 2016, every second citizen cut back on food spending, belmarket.by writes.

About half of Belarusian residents have started to economize on food, Belretail cites the MASMI research.

At the end of 2015, about a third of respondents stated that they had to economize. Belarusians are trying to save money on meat, fish, chocolate, beer, juices, coffee and tea.

Respondents also stated that at the end of last year they were forced to cut out meat and fish completely. For example, about 10% of the citizens stopped buying fish.

This information is confirmed by fresh statistics. There was observed a steady fall in retail turnover in December and January. The turnover of food products fell by more than 2% in January 2017.
