Larysa Shchyrakova Appears In Court With Noose On Her Neck

Dozens of people came to the court building to support the journalist.

Homel region court is considering a case of journalist Larysa Shchyrakova today. She is charged with having violated the media legislation and being involved in “illegal production and distribution of media materials”, belsat.eu reports.

A protocol was drawn on Shchyrakova for the video story about the plans of authorities to demolish more than fifty private houses in Homel, which caused outrage of local residents. The story appeared on Belsat TV.

The hearing started at 16.00. Dozens of people came to the court building to support the independent journalist, including Viktar Rubtsou, Leanid Sudalenka, local opposition activists and Homel video-bloggers.

This is the fifth administrative case against the independent journalist this year. In total, she has been fined for Bn 2,576.
