Mikalai Statkevich

The opposition politician was detained after the meeting of the BNC Rada.

Today, on September 22, security officials detained Mikalai Statkevich, one of the BNC leaders, as he was leaving the Minsk independent REP trade union office after the meeting of the Rada of the Belarusian National Congress.

BNC representative in Svetlahorsk Yury Liashenka informed about that on Facebook.

"There were several cars near our house, they were not shutting off the engines. Today they followed us in a taxi. And as soon as we left the BNC office, we even didn’t manage to make a few steps, as a mini-bus drove up and they caught up Mikalai," – Mikalai Statkevich's wife Maryna Adamovich told Svaboda.

Mikalai Statkevich stayed at large for three weeks: on August 31, he was released after 5 days of arrest for a violation, which he had allegedly committed back on March 30. But also he was sentenced to 15 days of arrest for participating in the peaceful protest on July 3. Statkevich was released after 5 days, he was not forced to stay in prison for another 15 days.

Today the BNC Rada summed up the results of the previous protests and confirmed its decision to hold the March of Angry Belarusians 2.0 at Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk on October
