Inquest into the Death of Soldier Korzhych Extended Until February 9
Aliaksandr Korzhych

The family of the soldier wait for final results of the investigation.

The inquest into the death of 21 year-old soldier Aliaksandr Korzhych is extended until February 9.

Svyatlana Mikalayeuna, mother of Aliaksandr, informed Radio Svaboda of no ability to voice circumstances of the investigation. The woman has hope that the guilty will undergo punishment. She points out that the version of forcible suicide is currently being considered, although she denies this version.

"at the meeting with the Defence Minister, the name of ensign Vibrala became common. He is arrested. He embezzled Aliaksandr's money and spent on his own needs.

We visited the military unit in Pechy. Changes are visible now. Soliers can easily use mobile phones. But why has it become possible only after the death of my son?" Svyatlana Mikalayeuna wonders.

Her colleagues sympathize with the woman. They can see how the tragedy affected her. Strangers also often express words of support. Some military people offer help in the investigation.

It will be recalled that 21 year-old soldier Aliaksandr Korzhych was found hanged in a basement on the territory of the Pechy military unit on October 3. His legs were tied and his t-shirt covered his head. According to relatives and friends of Aliaksandr, the guy was the victim of hazing. He was beaten, squeezed money from, and finally he was murdered.

First, the Defence Ministry claimed that Korzhych committed suicide. The Investigative Committee noted absence of any signs of criminal origin. But then the position of the IC changed: investigators initiated a number of criminal cases against military personnel under Art. 443 (harassment of subordinates), 455 (grave inaction of the authorities), 209 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
