Russian Airborne Troops Landed In Brest

The 137th regiment has come to Brest.
On September 29, tactical exercises of the Belarusian 38th Airborne Assault Brigade and the Russian Parachute Regiment started at the Brestski training ground – less than 6 km from Poland, Radio Svaboda reports referring to the Defense Ministry of Belarus.
"The aim of the exercise is to develop training and combat tasks when conducting joint special operations by units of special operations forces and airborne forces in regards to searching for, blocking and destroying illegal armed formations and diversionary groups of a conventional enemy in order to stabilize the situation in the designated area of responsibility," – the Ministry of Defense describes the exercises.
On October 1-5, the active phase of the exercises will be held in 6 districts of Brest region with the participation of up to 1,500 troops and 200 items of weapons and equipment, up to 10 aviation units. They will be trained to act in darkness in conditions of "complex electronic environment," learn new stations of electronic warfare, practice to be air dropped with a new parachute system, check the combat readiness of armored personnel carriers and mortars.
The 137th paratrooper regiment of the 106th Airborne Division of the Russian Airborne Forces, which arrived in Belarus, is primarily known for its participation in the "bloody January" in Azerbaijan's Baku – the suppression of anti-Soviet and anti-Armenian protests, in which 137 people were killed. Then the 106th division was commanded by well-known Russian general Alexander Lebed.
The 106th division has also participated in both Chechen wars.
Informnapalm asserts that the 137th regiment has participated in the Russian aggression in the Ukrainian Donbass.
