Minister Of Defense: We Will Take Only Son To Army As Well

Defense Minister Andrei Raukou has commented on the idea of not calling into the army the only son in a family.

Answering the question of tut.by, whether the only son in the family will have to serve in the army, Defense Minister Andrei Raukou said that this issue was "monitored."

– In our country, 21% of boys are the only child in the family, and of those in reserve, even more, 24%. To say that they will not serve in the army will be wrong. And the parents of two or three sons will say: "But are we not like them?"

The minister also said that because of the demographic situation in the country, they have to accept in the army those young people whom they would not have selected in the early 2000s.

– Almost 5% of all the conscripts were held criminally responsible for theft, hooliganism. Two-thirds were registered with the police, 2.4% with drug therapists, and 3.5% with psychiatrists.

According to the minister, 98% of these guys in the army manage to bring to discipline.

–They come back home as normal, decent people, – Raukou noted.
