Blocking Of Charter'97 Website Discussed In European External Action Service

The European diplomats are concerned about the pressure on the freedom of speech in Belarus.

On the last day of her visit to Brussels, Editor-in-Chief of Charter97.org Natallia Radzina met with Head of the Division Eastern Partnership - bilateral of the European External Action Service Dirk Schuebel.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the situation with the blocking of the independent website in Belarus and the actions which the European Commission could take to solve this issue.

Dirk Schuebel expressed concern with regard to the pressure on the freedom of speech and said he was going to take corresponding measures. The politician is well aware about the situation in Belarus, as he was recently in Minsk with a visit, together with the EU High Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

On the same day, Natallia Radzina held meetings in the European People's Party and with former Vice-President of the European Parliament, MEP from Poland Jacek Saryusz-Wolski.

In Brussels, Natallia Radzina discussed the situation with blocking of Charter'97 and the possibility of imposing sanctions against the Belarusian officials and Lukashenka's High-Tech Park with Vice-President of the European Parliament Pavel Telička, Head of the European Parliament's Committee for Security and Defense Anna Fotygo, Deputy Head of the European People's Party fraction in the European Parliament, former Latvian Foreign Minister Sandra Kalniete, Deputy Head of the Conservatives and Reformists group Roberts Zīle and the MEPs from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia and Sweden.
