It will be recalled that on April 3, a criminal case under Part 2, Article 295 "Possession of ammunition" was opened against Moses Mazko, the opponent of the construction of the battery plant. Since April 3, the 62-year-old man has been in the detention facility. On April 6, he was released due to lack of evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
On 2 April, the car driven by Moses Mazko had cartridges, an unidentified briquette and an object that resembled an explosive device fuze. Later, the Investigative Committee reported that cartridges were ammunition for several types of pistols, rifles, carbines and rifles. An explosive technical examination should determine whether the briquette belongs to explosives
The car driven by Moses Mazko does not belong to him. It is owned by monastery in the Brest Fortress; the man works there.
In the morning and evening of April 3, searches were carried out in the house of Mazko's son and in the house of Moses Mazko. Nothing was seized.
After Mazko's arrest, his relatives stated that he had been under surveillance.
On 4 April, after the arrest of the activist and his son, the public campaign "Freedom to Moses" started in Brest.
Moses Mazko, the resident of the village of Telma, Brest district, is the member of the initiative group against the construction of the battery plant near Brest. For more than a year, the initiative group of Brest citizens and residents of the district, as well as its supporters, have been constantly talking about numerous violations of the project. Representatives of the plant, environmental organizations and officials assure that fears are idle and there are no violations. The authorities say that in case of violations the plant will be closed down.
The operation of the battery plant was originally planned on August 2018, then at the end of the year. Last week, Brest District Executive Committee reported that the assessment of the plant starts on April 11 and ends on April 21.
According to official information, the initial capacity of the plant amounts to 1 million batteries per year, and subsequently will be doubled.
