Brest Blogger Siarhei Piatrukhin Released

The consideration of People's Reporter's case is adjourned.

Blogger and public activist from Brest Siarhei Piatrukhin has been released. This has been reported to the Charter97.org website by the Brest correspondent. The consideration of the case has been postponed until June 10.

We remind you that blogger Siarhei Piatrukhin was broadcasting live from Lenin Square in Brest on the afternoon of June 2, where pigeons were being fed again as a sign of protest against the battery factory. Interior Ministry officers pushed him into a car on the corner of Mayakovsky and Savetskaya Streets and took him to an unknown location.

Then it became known that he was taken to the Leninski district police department. A protocol was drawn up against him under Article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (petty hooliganism) and he was placed in the temporary detention facility until the trial.

Siarhei Piatrukhin is known for his videos on pressing social issues. Since 2018, together with Biaroza blogger Aliaksandr Kabanau, he has been covering the construction of the battery factory near Brest on the YouTube channels "People's Reporter" and "YouTube Deputies". The bloggers have been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for their activity. They were detained and fined large sums of money. People help Piatrukhin and Kabanau to pay the fines.

Also, Siarhei Piatrukhin and Aliaksandr Kabanau became laureates of the 2018 National Prize in the field of human rights protection in two categories: "For Courage in Creativity" and "For Personal Courage." The Prize is awarded by the Charter97.org website.
