Lida Erected an Equestrian Monument to Duke Gediminas

The monument will be unveiled to mark the City Day.

Today Lida residents have witnessed the historical event - the erection of a monument to Grand Duke Gediminas in the city. Not so long ago a pedestal was erected at the bottom of the castle. Today the pedestal has finally got its honorary owner, pvlida.by writes.

It is a joint work of sculptors Siarhei Ohanau (by the way, he comes from Lida) and Volha Nechai. The competition for the best design of the future sculpture "The founder of the castle - Duke Gediminas" was announced by the Lida District Executive Committee in October 2017. When the winner was chosen, all the documentation was approved and hard work on the erection of the monument started. Thus, the creation of Gediminas monument took almost 2 years to please the people of Lida and the guests of the city.

The monument will be unveiled to mark the City Day. This day is also fateful and exciting. Passers-by stopped, slowed down cars when they saw the scale of the event.
